When the weekend is over and you’re talking abut what you did on your days off, what are you saying? Did you go hiking with your dog, see a movie with the kids, cook a special dinner for your family, have a staycation downtown or enjoy your backyard? I hope you did. That’s a life well lived.

So often we go into work on Monday and feel like we didn’t get to the things we truly care about over the weekend. We feel tired and like we need another day off to rest.

This kept happening to me! This is when I decided to start looking for ways to plan out my weekends and fill them with things that bring me Happiness. I also made a list of things that were time and energy thieves because it’s not like I can’t think of a million fun things to do—I just couldn’t seem to squeeze those things into a two-day weekend.

I discovered that the TV, searching the internet, household chores and a general lack of organization were contributors to this time/energy suck.

The plan to retake my weekend was hatched immediately.

• Movie time was planned more like an event—time just for me or with others.

• I organized my Fun List throughout the week so I didn’t waste the weekend researching event details on the internet—which we all know leads to endless hours reading about things that are fascinating but not what we really planned on doing that day.

• A few baskets were placed strategically around the house to collect things I regularly use and look for during the week. This keeps the house tidy and shortens the time needed to clean and disinfect surfaces.

• And— I got a house cleaner to help me with the household chores that just robbed me of at least a half-day every weekend and left me tired.

The house cleaning service that I needed, cleaned and disinfected the kitchen and bathrooms, dusted all the furniture and everything on it, made up my bed with clean sheets, straightened up the house, cleaned my sliding glass door, vacuumed my floors, and mopped the hard surfaces. I wanted them to be affordable, available 7 days a week and bring their own cleaning supplies too. I wasn’t able to find exactly what I wanted, so I started my own cleaning business. But that’s another story.
