The one room in the house that demands the most labor is the bathroom. This room gets that gummy combination of steam, dirt, germs, hair, hair spray and a lot of foot traffic to make it a real mess. There is an easier way to clean those layers of bathroom grime. Follow these time saving cleaning steps to reclaim a sparkling disinfected bathroom you will actually want to go into.
1) Before you spray any cleaner, or even clear off the items on surfaces you are about to clean, get out your vacuum. Use a hand held vacuum or a standard one with a hose and attachments. You are going to suck up all that hair, dust, and dirt off all surfaces before you attempt to clean them. That’s right. Vacuum the counters, the floors, around the toilet, the baseboards, inside the tub and in the shower. This highly important step will expedite the rest of the cleaning process by removing all that hair and dirt first before you get out your cleaning solutions. You don’t want a month of dust and hair in your cleaning bucket, on your cleaning cloth or on your feet. That would just slow you down. This list is all about cleaning a bathroom the easy way.
2) Remove all items off surfaces. You can put them right outside the bathroom door carefully. This includes the mountain of soaps and hair products that are in the shower. Don’t clean them yet. You can set them down as they are. Fill a bucket with warm water, a few drops Dawn dish soap, 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol, or your favorite cleaner like Fabuloso. (Rubbing alcohol and Dawn will bring the water to a neutral state, thus it will clean better.) Take two micro fiber clothes and put them in the bucket of water. While you are using one cloth, the other is cleaning itself.
3) Before you start cleaning surfaces, spray the shower tub, tile and shower glass with soap scum remover like Kaboom or CLR or anything that removes hard water and soap scum. Let that sit while you clean other areas in the bathroom. You are going to want to use a Magic eraser to clean with because they are magical. Use them in the tub and you will be amazed at the work they can do for you.
4) The toilet requires serious germ fighting solutions. I suggest you spray the toilet with a bleach and water combination. With a toilet brush and Comet, clean the inside of the toilet. Wipe the entire toilet with a paper towel so you can just throw that away.
5) With the cleaning solution your prepared in the bucket, clean all the surfaces in the bathroom. They will look streaked, but you are going to go over the surfaces, shower, bathtub, glass encloser and mirrors with window cleaner and either a paper towel or a cloth to remove those streaks and make the room shine. (Try even using furniture polish on counters and sinks. It seals the surface and adds extra protection. Turtle wax has been used in fiberglass tubs to help seal them also from absorbing bathtub grime too quickly. For a real pro finish, spray Orangeglow on a microfiber cloth and clean Oak or other absorbent wood cabinets in the bathroom.)
6) Don’t forget those items you placed outside the bathroom. You are going to clean those also with the cleaning solution in the bucket and place them back where they belong.
7) For the last step, refresh the cleaning solution in the bucket and clean the floors with a microfiber cloth or a mop. Dump that dirty bucket water in the toilet carefully so it doesn’t splash. Then step back and appreciate your glistening bathroom.
